Professor Carl Jones wins Conservation Oscar

Hello fellow conservationists,

Carl_Jones_with_echo_parakeetI wanted to draw everyone’s attention to the following article about Professor Carl Jones and the Indianapolis prize. It is fantastic to see anyone being rewarded for conservation efforts but it is indeed even closer to our hearts when it is one of our own! Carl has achieved some remarkable feats of conservation of which the following are only a few.

He rescued the Mauritius Kestrel from extinction. There were only 4 remaining in the wild when he started. He released over 300 captive bred birds over a decade.

He served as an advisor to the Mauritian Government to help establish Black River Gorges National Park. This lead to the restoration of nine off shore islands!

He has led the recovery efforts of 10% of down-listed IUCN Red List s
pecies.

The man is a wonder and a true torch carrier of the legacy that Gerald Durrell left behind.

Please read on about Carl here!

Congratulations Carl!
