Happy birthday our primate prince… and ‘the boss’

Our proud primate prince Indigo celebrates his birthday, shared with his dad 'the boss', Badongo

Proud primate prince Indigo celebrates his birthday, shared with his dad, silverback Badongo

The 27th of September was a special day for Durrell’s gorilla family. We celebrated not one, but two birthdays! Our silverback, Badongo turned 16 that day – and his son, cheeky little Indigo, celebrated his third birthday.

A very special friend – and family member – dropped by to wish them a happy birthday… Henry Cavill was in Jersey after attending the #UglyBugBall and popped by to say hello.

Henry adopted our gorilla group last year. If you aren’t already ‘part of the family’, why not follow in Henry’s footsteps and adopt Durrell’s gorilla family?

Your support can make a big difference. You can help us give the best possible care to our gorilla family – Badongo has a big appetite and £12.90 helps us feed him for one day.

But you’ll also be supporting our conservation efforts on wild populations. These majestic animals are threatened in the wild by poaching and habitat loss. Our gorillas at Durrell form part of an important safety net population and have become ambassadors for their wild counterparts.

You can help our gorilla birthday boys not just for one special day, but every single day, by giving a present of your very own. Please donate and support gorillas.

In addition to Henry’s visit, ‘boss’ Badongo and our primate prince Indigo were treated to their very own birthday party. Durrell’s Teenage Volunteers made some ‘cakes’ filled with walnuts, peanuts, hazelnuts and sunflower seeds. The ‘icing on the cake’ was a smidgen of marmite – something our gorilla family loves.

Thank you Henry for making this birthday one to remember! Now it’s your chance to a take peek at the birthday celebrations…

I wish I could be there in person to celebrate Indigo and Badongo’s birthdays!!! I’m so proud to be apart of Henry’s adopted family. Thank you for giving me this unique opportunity to stay connected and provide support from the other side of the globe.
